Take a gap year in Spain Take a Gap Year in Spain

The Gap Year is a gap year that more and more students are choosing to take after graduating from college or before starting their academic career.

This year is often devoted to trips, cultural or sports activities, but also to volunteer projects or work placements. It is also an excellent opportunity to prepare for future admission to the university and program of your choice in Spain.

In Spain, there are many possibilities for students who wish to do a Gap Year. For example, they can participate in volunteer programs in associations or NGOs, do an internship in a Spanish company, or take advantage of their stay to practice sports or cultural activities.

If you are interested in a Gap Year dedicated to volunteering, travel or experience, we invite you to visit our special page on the subject, which will give you more information on the possibilities offered and the projects in progress.

Don't forget that the Gap Year is a unique opportunity to discover a new culture, meet new people and discover new horizons. So don't hesitate to take advantage of this opportunity to enrich your personal and professional life.

A gap year is not a vacation or a year off.

A "Gap Year" is a year that is used to prepare and achieve your goals.

This includes preparation in Spanish in case you're planning to study in Spain, but it's not the only thing.

There are also programs that allow you to go to classes and learn about different courses and then choose the studies that really suit you.

This is what the " Foundation programs" offer.

These are one-year courses, generally within universities, which then open the doors to the chosen course if successful.

This type of program is suitable for students who are not yet 100% sure of their academic direction. And for the parents, you will be reassured to know that they are in a classic school setting, as opposed to a "Gap Year" as explained above.

  • Improve your language skills,
  • Become autonomous and self-disciplined
  • Learn to open up to others to enrich yourself,
  • Test something new before continuing your studies,
  • Define your academic orientation,
  • Improve your CV

As you can see, much more than a sabbatical year, a GAP-YEAR allows you to create beautiful international friendships, to get to know each other better, to rediscover yourself, to be immersed in a cultural, linguistic and intellectual experience.

Doing a gap year in Spain can have a very variable cost depending on what the student is going to do. If one chooses to work to gain experience and to give oneself time to think about one's orientation, it can have a lower cost because there will be an inflow of income.

But of course, taking Spanish classes, going to a Foundation Program or doing any type of activity will have a significant cost to the student and/or family.

Living abroad means having to pay rent, travel, and add all the current expenses of food, telephone, etc.. In Spain, it is difficult to budget less than 600€ per month for the cheapest cities, in reality you should count on a budget of 800/1000€ per month to live properly.

Then you will add the fees related to the program you will follow.
