Opening a bank account

FEEDUC

OPENING A BANK ACCOUNTWHILE STUDYING IN SPAIN, YOU'LL NEED A BANK ACCOUNT

If you're a citizen of a European Union country, you don't need to have a bank account in Spain to pay for your university.

On the other hand, a student in Spain must always have a bank account in Spain in order to :

  • Take out an Internet or cell phone contract
  • Take out a water, gas or electricity contract
  • Be eligible for a monthly membership (e.g. sports club with monthly payments)

A student in Spain may sometimes be required to have a bank account in Spain for :

  • Renting an apartment
  • Taking out insurance

FEEduc always advises students in Spain to open a bank account to make their day-to-day life easier. Most banks charge very low account-keeping fees for students.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are not Spanish and do not reside in Spain, you will not be able to obtain a student loan to finance your studies in Spain. To take out a student loan to study in Spain, you'll need to contact a bank in your home country.

To finalize your registration in some universities, this bank account will even be mandatory for certain payment methods.

For example, if you choose to pay for your studies in Spain on a monthly basis, some universities will charge your tuition to a bank account in Spain.

Your registration will only be finalized when you are able to provide a Spanish bank account number.
